What are some of your favorite films? In today’s post I wanted to discuss some really heartfelt movies involving historical people and events in time. I am a huge movie buff and really enjoy historical fiction whether in movies, television, or in books. This post will be my top twenty movies picks that fall under the category of historical fiction. The very number one movie on my list is The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society. This movie is my absolute hands-down favorite movie ever. Juliet is after a story to write about; however, she finds instead a family to love. The movies follows her as she learns the struggles and hardship the people of Guernsey faced during German occupation. This movie is one of the most moving films I have ever seen.

#5: SUFFRAGETTE (2015)

Summary from IMDb: In 1912 London, a young working mother is galvanized into radical political activism supporting the right for women to vote, and is willing to meet violence with violence to achieve this end. A drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality – their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. Maud was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational.
