Missile Strike On Space Plant In Dnipro Kills Three: Ukrainian War News

Russian long-range cruise missiles kills three and injuries fifteen in a strike that took place on Saturday. The strike was on Dnipro’s Yuzhmash plant and the surrounding streets according to Ukrainian officials. The factory builds satellites – with one launched into space by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.

The Yuzhmash plant were also producing parts for Ukrainian ballistic missiles as well as spacecrafts, launch rockets, tractors, tools, and industrial products. One local resident said in a statement that “A rocket landed just in front of my window, one or two meters to the side and I wouldn’t be here.”

Russian forces have been moving the focus to around the Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, as the war enters its fifth month. Their forces increasingly have been striking cities in the country with missiles and rockets strikes.

The BBC’s Joe Inwood, describes updates live from Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv reporting that “as Russia’s ground offensive in the east have slowed down, there has been an increase in the number of attacks from the air – often hitting city centres and buildings. Air raid sirens sounded right across Ukraine last night.”

Ukraine’s defense ministry said on Friday that only thirty percent of Russian strikes were hitting military targets, with the rest landing on civilian sites. A disturbing image following the attack shows a man lying face down, his head covered in blood. He had just finished his shift as a local bus driver.

Dnipro mayor Borys Filatov urged civilians to leave the city. “There is no room for women, children and the elderly, and those who can and want to leave – leave,” he said while continuing to urge people to get to safety quickly.

“They destroyed the airport several times with missiles, hit all the outskirts of the city, shot at the bridge right in the centre, bombed the oil depot and service station, but citizens stubbornly continued to ignore the air raid sirens,“ he complained.

On Thursday in Vinnytsia, a city that is south-west of Kyiv, citizens faced yet another deadly strike from a Russian cruise missile that killed an estimated twenty-three people and wounded dozens more according to officials.

The Ukrainian military says that those missiles were fired by submarine ships located in the Black Sea; whereas, the ones that struck out at the factory plant in Dnipro came from bombers flying over the Caspian Sea.

“Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has ordered Russians to step up their operations, to prevent Ukrainian artillery and missile strikes on Russian-controlled areas. He was speaking to the military in areas they control,” Russian media reported.
