WWII changed lives and history forever, the war world was a time of death, destruction, and evil; however, it was also a time that brought people together in ways never imaginable. Everyone had to step up and do their part. Many chose to fight, nurse, and build. People showed strength and tragedy brought communities closer than ever before.
In the summer of 1914, The U.S implemented a volunteer ambulance service in France at the beginning of WWI. The goal was to assist those injured outside of Paris in an American hospital. German troops had been storming France all summer long and those being wounded on the front lines needed transportation to receive medical care.
The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg was the last straw that would set of a chain of events leading many countries to declare war and begin the first world war in history. WWI or the “Great War” had over a hundred countries involved in the conflict during its climax between 1914-1918.
