Today in history on August 30th, 1797 – The author of Frankenstein was born. Mary Shelley was an English gothic writer whose work contributed significantly in literature and is considered an early example of science fiction. She also edited and promoted the works of her husband, the Romantic poet and philosopher Percy Bysshe Shelley.
