My Lady Jane: An All-New Series – Amazon Prime! Airing on June 27th
“Good people, I am come hither to die, and by a law I am condemned to the same. The fact, indeed, against the queen’s highness was unlawful, and the consenting thereunto by me: but touching the procurement and desire thereof by me or on my behalf, I do wash my hands thereof in innocency, before God and the face of you, good Christian people, this day.” – Lady Jane Grey
I honestly don’t think I’ve been this excited and thrilled about a television show in such a long time! In today’s post, I’m so beyond happy to share the upcoming trailer to Amazon Prime’s new series about the young Lady Jane Grey which will be airing later this month on June 27th! I’ve been giddy since I saw the trailer! This new show reimagines history. This fresh take poses intriguing questions: What if Jane had foreseen her fate? Could she have evaded the executioner’s axe and Queen Mary Tudor’s fury?
It’s a concept I’ve yearned for, reminiscent of the 1986 film ‘Lady Jane’ starring Helena Bonham Carter. Another adaptation has been a very long-held hope of mine! Historical fiction holds a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to dive into this new series.
My Lady Jane aims to reimagine the tragic tale of a would-be queen. A woman caught up in a disaster beyond her control. It blends historical intrigue with playful storytelling. At the heart of this fresh narrative is Lady Jane, the sharp-witted heroine whose life takes an unexpected turn when her cruel and ambitious mother arranges a marriage. The groom is the notorious playboy Guildford Dudley. What will follow is a riveting journey filled to the brim with love, secrets, and scandal that threaten the very foundation of English court. My Lady Jane is a series that promises to enchant, surprise, and remind us that even the most doomed can rewrite their destiny!
Now with all that said, I am all too aware that this series won’t be to everybody taste and liking. It won’t be historically accurate at it’s core. That’s not the point of the show. The intent behind My Lady Jane is to be a funny, empowering, and adventorous historical what-if. A question of what might have been a very different version of Jane’s tragic life. I couldn’t be more pleased with the concept. I have every hope in my soul that this series will prove to be entertaining. My excitment is very real. The series trailer is posted below!

IMDB Summary:
When her ambitious mother sells Jane’s hand to the highest bidder, Jane is dismayed to discover that her dreaded husband-to-be, Guildford Dudley, is an infuriatingly attractive stranger with a dark secret; one that has the potential to get them both killed.
Not to mention the fact that there are greater conspiracies afoot, like a plot to murder her cousin, King Edward, and throw the entire kingdom into chaos. A sharp-tongued, warm-hearted story full of romance, adventure, and fantasy, My Lady Jane reveals that true love is real, people are not always what they seem, and even doomed heroines can save themselves. That hope can live on.
My Lady Jane is the first in a series of six young adult books, The Lady Janeis, by co-authors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. The books reimagine the lives (and fates) of famous historical figures, from Lady Jane Grey to Mary, Queen of Scots.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:
This comical, fantastical, romantical, New York Times bestselling, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey is “an uproarious historical fantasy that’s not to be missed” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).
In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind YA fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.
At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.
Like that could go wrong.

Everyone in my history A-level group (all-girls school) was obsessed with the Lady Jane film. One girl even named a teddy she received for her 18th birthday “Guilford”. We were very upset when the teacher insisted that Guilford Dudley was actually a nasty piece of work and not the hunky hero portrayed by Cary Elwes in the film 😄. I must see if this is on Amazon Prime UK.
I really hope it is on prime UK. It looks like it will be such a funny series! Yeah that movie is great, They had good chemistry and yeah he is to die for in it. Such a handsome actor! I loved him in his movie The Princess Bride as well
Picking through history, sorting fact, and filling in the blanks with edits by another name: story, hagiography, propaganda, whatever, it seems the distinguishing line between fact and fiction is always a good story in search of an artifact for “proof”. Even the most original sources fall toward fiction with interpretation and are always simply becoming story. Why not let the story entertain? Thanks for sharing.
This should definitley be a hilarious and entertaining historical what if this happened type of series. I am so excited!
Wow! I didn’t know there was a series. I have been reading a fair bit about Lady Jane Grey lately. I look forward to this. I hope is good.
I hope so too. I have every hope that it will be hysterical to watch. Just have to take it for what it is meant to be. An empowering comedic historical what if – an alternate history. Meant to entertain more than educate us on her actual life.
To be honest, I am happy with that. I am a big fan of the “Philomena Cunk” series and I would 100% recommend watching Norsemen TV Series (Netflix), which is a parody of Vikings. I love that kind of stuff because sometimes you just want to disconnect and have a laugh.
I have never heard of Norsemen on Netflix, but I will definitely be checking it out! and agreed. A laugh is always good!
Sounds very fun! Thanks for the preview. I think it’s good for history to be re-imagined, especially from a female pov!
I love that so much. That is taking poor tragic Jane and giving her back some power. It should be rather funny! I can’t to check it out!
Thank you for sharing. I’ll be adding it to my list of shows to watch. I watched the trailer, and it looks like fun.
It really does look like fun. I love what-if’s and will love to see Jane get back some of her power and correct history, Should be very entertaining!

Oh now this looks fantastically binge-worthy! Looks like I found my summer show 🙂
I have high hopes it will be worth the watch. I don’t watch a lot on prime so I am wondering if they posting all episodes at once or weekly. We shall see!
I am so glad you posted this! I can’t wait to see it!
It does look so good. I’m excited! I wonder how many episodes it will be!
I don’t know, but historical fiction programming feels like it doesn’t come out enough, so I hope there are many. 🙂
Why is Edward portrayed as a black man? He was not black, was he?
No Edward Tudor was not black but given that this is an entirely dramatized fictional what if historical comedy perhaps that just doesn’t matter. 🤔 🤏✌️
I’ve been a non stop subscriber to Amazon Prime Video streaming platform for 5x years. I’ll look into this on sunday when back from two days travels 🙂 Summer’second heatwave here, uh no good. +32c & no wind. Sure it’s nothing compared to record breaking numbers in Southern / West Europe & India. +38c –> +51c 😬
I have prime and will definitely will be checking it out this week!
Thanks for the opportunity to contribute!
Great article! Thank you for sharing with me!
Many thanks for clarifying about this series, Samantha. The commercials made it sound so good, but I couldn’t bear her sad fate. Now I feel more able to check it out. Hugs.
I watched it and it was humorous!
I hate stuff like this. Light comedy about the abuse and murder of a 16 year old girl? I also hate the way it portrays Tudor Britain as a bit of a laugh rather than a time of cruelty, overbearing morality and a complete lack of rights for women. It wasn’t “fun” Lady Jane was never in any way a strong, empowered, woman. Like every other woman throughout history, they were mostly mistreated, often imprisoned, tortured and murdered and almost wholly dependent on a man. This trivializes the horror of what happened to Lady Jane Gray, a wholly innocent child, used, abused and brutally murdered.
