About

Hello, my name is Samantha James. I created this website because I have a passion for all things history, writing, literature, and books. The Chronicles of History’s mission is to bring unique, interesting, mysterious, and unknown history from our past right to the center stage for readers to enjoy.

History is filled with events that are dramatic, heroic, tragic, sad, heartening, and everything in between. I want to tell those stories and write my own.

There is nothing more fascinating than history and reading. It is our connection to the world around us that I believe has allowed mankind to forge ahead into the future. The fierce people who have walked before us should be remembered, honored, and celebrated in all ways possible.

I am currently studying a history program along with both creative writing and non-fiction. My hope is to get a master’s degree in History with an emphasis on English Literature

  • Hello, The Chronicles Of History,

You inspired me to try the Twenty Eleven theme again, probably the greatest default WordPress theme of all-time, for the first time in years.

If they were to make a few updates to it, to updated it to the current standards and increase the font size, it would almost be perfect.

Your blog proved that the Twenty Eleven theme is still usable as a theme, even in 2023, it is a classic.

It is a shame how the default WodPress themes and the free WordPress.com themes of the last several years have disappointed and gone further & further away from what I need / want / expect in a theme.

    Thank you,

    — John Jr

    • Thank you John! I am not very technically advanced and had used other themes that had some cool features but was a headache and posting was terrible. I went with this one because I just wanted to get back to basics, have a nice clean site, and posting to be simple. It’s a format I like and think keeps my page uncomplicated especially since I do post different topics such a history, book reviews, short stories, etc. I appreciate your comment and am glad that you were inspired to use the theme. Just peaked at your site. It’s very nice!

      • You are welcome, The Chronicles Of History.

I agree, believe it or not, but I was fortunate enough to use the Twenty Eleven theme back when it first came out.

I have had a WordPress.com blog since about 2007, but it was around 2011 when I truly started blogging here regularly.

It was one of the themes that I used to keep coming back to. 🙂

Thank you, mine current setup is pretty basic, but I might mix it up a bit, one day. 😉

Back in the day, I used to look forward to the new themes each month, and I used to change themes several times a year; I miss those days.

I tried long periods of trying to customize the new full site editing themes, but it just did not seem worth having to go through all the unnecessary scattered settings & complications just to get a functional general purpose theme setup.

It is crazy how I have been blogging here for years but the current changes are just so extreme, scattered, confusing, annoying, et cetera that even I am somewhat lost & confused; and I used to help people here at WordPress.com & at the forums sometimes.

Now I feel like an old millennial geezer, which I am, annoyed with the unnecessary changes & complications et cetera, as I struggle to try to continue to survive on WordPress.com. 😀

      • Oh my gosh. You just sound like me. I’ve been complaining constantly to anyone who listens about all the changes. Getting tired of seeing things change every time I log in. I get used to one thing and bam it’s different. Don’t like it at all. I am still evening using classic mode to make my post. I refuse to use the new block editors. They annoy me.

      • Hello, The Chronicles Of History,

Wow! We are even more similar, when I was not blogging & sometimes helping other bloggers, I used to be part of the WordPress.com resistance who would report our issues at the WordPress.com forums et cetera.

I came close to quitting WordPress.com and briefly quit several times over the years, here is one of my posts where there is a reference to one of those WordPress.com battles I took part in: https://johnjronline.wordpress.com/2014/08/13/8-13-2014-dream-fragment-a-man-cleaning-pet-areas-and-the-bv-will-not-move/

For a while, I refused to use one of the previous editors until I was at least able to do some of the things that I used to be able to do in the Classic Editor.

So I once was a Classic Editor holdout until I finally gave in because I assumed that we had lost the war, so I tried to adapt.

Then they changed that editor to yet another new one that took away things again, probably the early Block Editor.

So I held out on using it until once again I finally gave in & tried to adapt, expecting that they would force it on us.

It was a struggle, but eventually I could do some of the things that I needed to do in the current Block Editor.

I basically lost inspiration to fight anymore after taking part in various battles, we made minor gains, only for WordPress.com to move further in directions that we did not like.

I even stopped volunteering at the WordPress.com Forums and I stopped feeling like reporting issues anymore, now I rarely report annoyances, and I just try to adjust to the slow ever-changing tide in the wrong direction. 😀

Now I am just trying to survive here at WordPress.com and keep my blog alive.

Most of the bloggers that I met over the years are gone now, only a few of them, and I remain, it seems.
