Cordelia & Cole: Chaos of The Evil Wizard – Part Two of The Dragons

Cordelia and Cole are back for part two of the Dragons series that I am publishing here on the blog. This time readers get to dive a little deeper into how two royal humans deeply in love were divided by an evil wizard who manages to transform them into something not quite human anymore.

Now if readers haven’t read part one Cordelia & Cole: The Day They Met, then I highly recommended you start there before diving below into part two. Just click the above title and should direct you right to the first part.

I really hope everyone is enjoying the story and please let me know if you want more of the series. Also, the whole reason I am posting my short stories is because I really would appreciate advice, thoughts, feedbacks, and suggestions towards my writing. It is a passion of mine and I aim to grow!

She is a fairy.

He is a dragon.

It was not always that way.

She was a girl.

He was a boy.

It was a love more than love

It should have been very simple

But she is a fairy and he is a dragon

Love … it’s complicated.

Cordelia was a timid creature and felt much happier when the castle was filled with only those she loved. The list was short. It included her father Henry Fitzgerald, Duke of Ameliadale and her beloved fiancé Cole. There wasn’t anyone else. Her mother had died when she was a just a child.

This particular afternoon found Cordelia needing to leave behind all the questioning and foreign eyes watching her every move. It was all beyond what the young brokenhearted girl could take. She had to escape the castle.

Where was Cole? He should be here she thought tearfully.

While dying inside her heart and distraught, Cordelia silently left the castle to find herself at the beginning of the forest entrance. This would lead to a remote and hidden spot. It was a place Cole had shown her last summer.

It was her first time going there alone. Cordelia had a mission which must succeed for Cole. In fact, the entire fate of the kingdom was at risk if she failed. There was no hope for marriage but she had one chance to save him.

The hidden place now looked changed and unknown with the absence of Cole. It was the place the wizard had first shown himself. It was no longer the happy location she had remembered. Cordelia knew she had to be here.

The wizard had declared it would be the girls only chance of saving Cole… but now all she could think of was the first time he had brought her here. They had no clue what events and harm this little cove would cause them.

Tragedies would ensue. An obsession would develop. The damage irrevocable. People lost their lives. It was all Cordelia’s fault. She should have just listened and made the sacrifice. If only the girl could go back. The outcome would be so different. Selfishness would be her biggest regret.

All Cordelia wanted to do was everything in her power to save Cole. That was the only thing she could think about standing there waiting for the repulsive wizard. She was all too willing to meet his demands now.

Cordelia remembered how she had followed her little prince charming out to the path that led to the forest. “Cole please tells me we are not going back to the nest. I do not care if the bird can speak more words” she had said in amused chastisement. “No… Cordy this is much better than a talking bird” he solemnly promised. The two walked a few minutes down the path into the forest.

Cole stopped. He pointed at the cliff covered by the forest’s magnificent oak trees filled with green and brown splashes of color. Cordelia had noticed the cliff before. It was nothing new. “Here follow me” Cole had urged. They veered off the path onto the dirt and moss that covered the floor. Once they got closer, she could see a pinch of orange quite out of place in the forest.

Once at the cliff, Cordelia could see colors of orange and pink coming off a group of flowers that were covering a tiny opening just large enough for a person to slide in. Cole disappeared into the cliff, and she followed.

Cordelia immediately knew this was going to be good! Cole had never let her down before. She had known him since she was six and through the years that followed her bond with the boy surpassed comprehension.

The little lord had always been a true friend and with him brought some needed light when he came to live with the Fitzgerald family. It slowly overshadowed the mourning that had taken place in Ameliadale with the death of the very much admired late Duchess and wife of Henry Fitzgerald.

Cordelia had been a sad little thing when her mother had died but the grief was nothing compared to the melancholy that had rooted itself into her father, the Duke. Cole’s arrival to Ameliadale had brought life and adventure back to them all. He had healed the family and soothed their mourning.

It was fairly dark at first but once the two had taken about five steps; they came upon other side of the cliff. Cordelia slipped through and out into the sun and she could not speak. The dazzling beauty rendered her speechless.

It was a tiny cove surrounded by cliffs.

All along the cliff walls were hundreds… no…. thousands of wildflowers dancing from the ocean’s wind. The beauty was something else to behold! There were such vivid colors of red, pink, orange, and purple everywhere.

The ground covered not by dirt but stunning green grass with white poppies that encased the entire floor and went into a section of sand on a tiny beach. The view of the ocean along with the flowers made this the most darling place Cordelia had ever seen. She declared it was their secret spot.

They would spend afternoons that summer having picnics. Cordelia would sit and read while Cole practiced his sword fighting and made arrows. Hours upon hours the two spent there having fun. It was such a darling place!

Cole and Cordelia enjoyed their new magical hideaway. The cove’s charm matched their own beguile; it was the perfect secret; however, little did the two know there was more than one hidden entrance. There were others to be found. The young couple had a lot to learn about their special cove.

The cove wasn’t theirs alone because another knew of it.

A wizard had noticed the girl and watched with curiosity from his cave high on the cliff’s wall. They never saw him but he became fascinated by the two. It did not take long for him to decipher who Cordelia was with her pale white skin, stunning black curls, and her big bewitching brown eyes.

He had seen her mother once. She was a miniature copy of that magnificent lady. The wizard knew the girl had to be the daughter of Henry Fitzgerald. There was no doubt in the his mind. So if she was the little future duchess to be then the older boy always in her company must be the Lord Turner… The girl’s fiancé. He did not like that one bit. This young lady was to be his.

It only took him a few minutes to realize he would do everything in his power to possess the girl who slipped through the passage into his cove. So he watched and took delight in the knowledge he would soon have her.

The wizard needed to find a way to remove Cole from the girl’s presence. It would be the only way the girl could accept his request for her hand. The first step was to speak with the Duke. The wizard would demand that the engagement between the house of Fitzgerald and Turner to be broken off.

If Henry refused then he could easily curse the lands. The wizard would get his way no matter the lengths required to make ends meet. He would starve the entire country should he be provoked into doing so! It was about time the people of Ameliadale gave him a trophy and showed him his due.

He had been silently protecting the lands for years now from all sorts of atrocities such as bad weather, pestilence, disease, poverty, and famine.

It was not easy work. He did this all without ever asking for anything in return. In fact, most didn’t even know what he did constantly. It was time the kingdom learned of his efforts and showed him some favor.

Cordelia trembled as she remembered the first time the wizard had appeared. That day she had actually been alone. Cole was to follow her but had been delayed by Henry’s ramblings over the boy fulfilling his duties.

She looked around the cove and no longer saw beauty. The wizard had stopped the flowers from thriving. They were all withered and dead. The ocean waves now looked darker and more treacherous as they splashed onto the beach in angry tones. She shook the reverie out of her mind and began climbing determined to find the Wizard and fix everything for the kingdom.

Why hadn’t he met her at the entrance? She wasn’t sure but Cordelia would marry him and Cole would be returned to live his life out freely. That is all she wanted. Cole to be safe and her kingdom to thrive once again.

Cordelia pulled herself up with the vines that cascaded down the cliff trying to shake the image of the wizard just disappearing out of existence taking Cole along with him. She would find the wizard and offer herself to him.

Cordelia, Cole, and Henry had all agreed they would not surrender to the Wizard. This, Cordelia felt was a mistake. People were starving. The plague had come down upon them killing dozens by the day. It had to end.

The wizard could stop it. She could stop it. Cordelia knew she was doing what was right. Those she loved would be angry but at least they would be alive. She struggled inch by inch but eventually did make it to the top where the Wizard’s cave was rumored to be located. He had to be there!

She almost tumbled to her death. The moment Cordelia had climbed the ledge at the top she was faced with the hugest glowing green eyes she had ever seen. They were surrounded by a very familiar looking red face.

It was a dragon! She was staring down a dragon! A real living breathing dragon. Disbelief muddled her mind and she began to slide backwards without thinking, but the dragon immediately placed his tail around her before she plunged to a certain death. All would have been for naught.

Cordelia was confused. Why had the dragon stopped her fall? The muffled and scratchy words that came from the dragon next would forever change her world. “Cordy.” That was all it had spoken. She knew though. There was only one who ever called her that. It was Cole! She looked deeper into the dragon’s face and saw confirmation in the familiar eyes of her true love.

No! No! No! This could not be Cole!

She is a fairy. He is a dragon. It was not always that way. She was a girl. He was a boy. It was a love more than love. It should have been very simple. But she is a fairy and he is a dragon. Love … it’s complicated.

THEN END.

    • I am glad you are liking it. Will try to get part three out fairly soon. This time we will see more details what happens between The Wizard & Cole, and more details about how he became a Dragon, and also how Cordelia becomes a fairy. This one will be told through the perspective of Cole entirely.
