A Very Long Rant Because I am angry! WordPress You’ve Done It Now!
I am so angry! As those who follow me are likely aware, I spent weeks redesigning my site at the beginning of the year. The entire thing, every nook and cranny! This took a lot of work to the point I even learned how to do a tiny bit of coding to make things happen the way I wanted and I’ve been so happy with it so far. Everything was perfect, and I really loved how my homepage looked. It had a beautiful sidebar, a slider, and then my most recent post at the bottom. I LOVED IT!
Well today after I posted a poem I had recently written, I went to update homepage. This is done manually because I use a specific block widget on my sidebar, so I can choose weekly which post to feature there. This widget block was lovely. It gave me the customization to handpick which post were there. That was such a lovely feature that I utilized often.
I used it on my sidebar, and then again a second time in the middle of my homepage under the slider. This allowed me to select what was displayed outside of “recent post” or “category” or “tag”, which again I loved! However, I went to go update after posting and wouldn’t you know it. The widget block is discontinued. I can no longer use it. I’m so upset.
My homepage is now not how I want it at all, I’ve been trying to figure out replacement or something that will make me satisfied with the homepage. Nothing so far! So I am not sure what to do. I may choose a new theme, and do a whole new redesign because I don’t know. I am no longer in love with how my homepage looks. I will have to do something…
Now with all that said, I know I am being a lot over a discontinued block. My soul is very dramatic at the core. What can I say? Haha. I am okay though. I’m making it out to be a lot worse than it is, I am sure! I already checked the homepage on mobile view, and honestly, unless you really know my site, most probably cannot even tell a difference the way I can.
The homepage on the desktop is what is most affected but still isn’t all that bad. The post are fine. So it could be a lot worse. For tonight, I am just leaving it be because I cannot even deal. I am about to make some chips and dip to have a movie night. A friend was talking about Brittany Murphy today because we both watched a documentary on her recently. I’ve decided movie night with Brittany Murphy it is! I’m too overwhelmed with this turn of events to worry about it tonight.
Tomorrow when I’m less stressed about the whole situation, I will figure out solutions. A redesign of the site might be in order. I’m just not sure at this moment. Thank goodness nothing else is wrong. There could be way worse problems. Like the time I completely crashed my site for two days because I messed up the codes in the CS editor or whatever that whole spiel is called. At least it is not like that! WordPress support had to do their magic and fix my mistakes for me that time!
Anyway, thank you kindly for listening to my whole entire rant about how WordPress has made me so angry tonight. The site will be fine, just needs something… I will keep everybody posted. If you start seeing changes then know I am just working the site design out to be something I can be happy with and love. Everybody stay well! I will start posting again once I’ve got things figured out. Let’s hope that doesn’t take me too long to achieve. Please stay safe!

Preach it, sister! I was so happy with how the homepage was. Oh, well. It’s done. So I’m going to fiddle with things and maybe just redo the whole dang thing again. I don’t know yet. But I shall figure things out!
Damn, the frustration is understandable. This stuff is hard without the technical and coding language; just looking at it takes away all my hopes. I hope you figure the sh*t out
Don’t let it take your hopes. You have a lovey site and when in doubt, the internet is always your friend! You can even email me if you ever need help! I’m decent at this stuff so always willing to lend a hand. Also reddit blogging and reddit coding are a haven. I’ve had people help me with coding there. I’ve literally asked I need a code to change themes font site, and within minutes, viola the brilliance of other have come to my aid! So keep your blogging chin up. You got this super venom! Just keep posting. I have been enjoying your site. Just be yourself, write what you feel like talking about, and just keep going! 😁

WordPress never stops messing around, and even paid plans don’t get proper support any longer. I gave up trying to use the Help function here once it changed to AI. Good luck with your revisions.

I hate how things are always changing and updating. You finally get used to one thing. Then another happens! I finally started using block editing versus classical editor. Everything was how I wanted it. Now this! It’s okay, though. Tomorrow evening, I will have a look again and get something figured out! Thanks, Pete!
I do not have my usual place to find my drafts. I have to go to my media and click on a picture I used. I’ve asked them time and again, when wordpress works so well, why try to fix it? No answer…..
That’s crazy that they still haven’t fixed that for you! A recently heard that wordpress a few years back was bought by a new company. Maybe that explains why their support has gone down the drain.

I just recently heard about it when I was complaining to another blogger about how downhill wordpresss has seemed to be the last couple years and that is what they told me. I hadn’t know either!
I understand what you mean. I’m not good at visuals, so everything tends to take me longer, and I’ve got used to settling for something very simple. But it is very frustrating when you’ve cracked something and managed to make it just right, and then something outside of your control changes things… I hope you enjoy the movie night, and perhaps tomorrow something will come up. (It might be worth asking people if they know of another widget that might do something similar, but I am sure you’ll have thought of that. I think your site is gorgeous, for what that’s worth, and I know you’re right. Most of us wouldn’t notice the fine details, we enjoy the general look of it and the content.

Oh I hate when that happens- just when you get it how you want it things change and you have to redo it. You’ve put so much time, effort, and heart into creating your site. Good luck with getting it back how you want it 🙂

Sorry Samantha. Dealing with the web can be totally frustrating. People always feel the need to justify their existence by “improving” what already works. I’ve moved several times, most recently off MeWe over this kind of thing. I hope you can figure out how to work around this. – Grumpy Guy (Mark Olivares)

Developing websites is so time-consuming. I personally hate it, but I know that at some point, I need to improve mine. Good luck with the adjustments you need to make, and hopefully, they don’t take you too long.
I like your site layout for what is worth. I don’t think it needs improvement! I am working out what I want to do with mine currently!
Sorry that this happened! For me, the editor keeps changing (and sometimes changing back) and I keep on having to figure out how to do what I’ve never had any trouble doing. It’s aggravating!

Ugh, I hate when WP pulls stunts like this. They just randomly discontinue blocks for no reason. I’ve seen that happen to others 🙁
It really sucks, but I am currently doing an entire overhaul of the site, and that has been great. A refreshment was exactly needed. 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with your site! I can tell how much care and effort you put into its design, and it must be incredibly frustrating to have a key feature suddenly disappear like that. It’s always tough when something you’ve worked so hard on gets disrupted, especially when it’s something you’ve come to love.
It’s great that you’re taking some time to unwind, though. A movie night with Brittany Murphy sounds like the perfect way to take your mind off things for a bit.
