In this week’s Murder Monday post I am sharing some of the most frightening and horrifying quotes that I have seen in some of my favorite books. They are the types of words that bring chills to your bones and give you goosebumps! What are some of your favorite scary book quotes?
In further news, I do have the first installment of our ongoing series The Dragon Trilogy. If you haven’t read it then now is the time to check them out before the second part is posted at the end of the week! (CLICK HERE TO READ PART ONE). We appreciate all the thoughts and feedback received by those here in the book community! The support is heart-warming!
“When they killed him, Mother wouldn’t hold her peace, so they slit her throat. I was stupid then, being only nine, and I fought to save them both. But the thorns held me tight. I’ve learned to appreciate thorns since. The thorns taught me the game. They let me understand what all those grim and serious men who’ve fought the Hundred War have yet to learn. You can only win the game when you understand that it IS a game. Let a man play chess, and tell him that every pawn is his friend. Let him think both bishops holy. Let him remember happy days in the shadows of his castles. Let him love his queen. Watch him loose them all.”
― Mark Lawrence, Prince of Thorns
“All right, then,” Black said, without taking his eyes off the rat. “Tell them whatever you like. But make it quick, Remus. I want to commit the murder I was imprisoned for…”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
“Liam, soon-to-be-fucking-dead, Callahan was walking down the stairs—my fucking stairs—with his hair high and his green eyes sharper than razor blades. He was beautiful, and I almost regretted the fact that I would have to put a bullet in his head and then smash it through a fucking wall. -Melody G.”
― J.J. McAvoy, Ruthless People
“See, phrenology is this old Victorian science, which claimed you could determine the dominant traits of a man’s personality by studying the bumps on his head, Why not change a man’s personality by hitting him on the head with a hammer, till you raise just the right bumps in the right places!”
“One of us needs a lot more drinks,” said Alex. “That’s starting to make sense.”
― Simon R. Green, Something from the Nightside
“Murder is like potato chips: you can’t stop with just one.”
― Stephen King, Under the Dome
There was nothing to wash out – no stain of any kind – no blood-spot whatever. I had been too wary for that. A tub had caught all – ha! ha!
― Edgar Allan Poem A Tell Tale Heart
“I had the bone-handle carving knife in my hand. Not for her—I don’t know, just in case of something. When she run at me, I turned. She run straight up on that knife, sir. I swear I never meant to do it.”
― James Patterson, Alex Cross’s Trial
“Your–ah–intervention, shall we say, has simplified things in the palace enormously. We no longer have to worry about Salmissra’s whims and peculiar appetites. We rule by committee, and we hardly ever find it necessary to poison each other anymore. No one’s tried to poison me for months.”
― David Eddings, Castle of Wizardry
“Something looked wrong. Very wrong! I strained to focus my eyes on Mother. She had begun to wave the knife in her right hand. Again, I was not overly frightened. She had done this before too. “Eyes,” I told myself. “Look at her eyes.” I did, and they seemed normal for her – half glazed over. But my instincts told me there was something wrong.”
― Dave Pelzer , A Child Called “It”
“One will hate you for taking his life, another will run to excesses that you scorn. A third will emerge mad and raving, another a monster you cannot control. One will be jealous of your superiority, another shut you out… And the veil will always come down between you Make a legion, you will be, always and forever alone!”
― Anne Rice, The Vampire Lestat
